Well hello there. I’m sure you saw all the pictures on our various social media feeds, but Colebrook has returned and recovered from our three day, three state whirlwind tour. Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival was, in a word, sublime. Despite nearly melting into puddles we had a great time and were thrilled to play onstage with Artist in Residence Billy Strings.

The following day, after a rush-hour drive to La Guardia, and late flight, a really late drive to a hotel, and a drive across a time zone line, we arrived at Pickin’ on the Plains, and had a great time hanging with family and new friends, and meeting some truly awesome musicians.

After driving back across the time zone line, we played at Evergreen Brewery, to a really energetic crowd who was unconcerned about it being Sunday. They came to listen, for sure.

Next up is Whalen Commons in Poolesville, MD, and the Connective Music Festival in Oxford, PA this Friday and Saturday. Maybe we’ll see some of you there!

Howdy folks! Welcome to the new online home of Colebrook Road. We hope you like the new look. Our online store is back in operation as well.

We are getting ready to head out to Heaven, i.e. Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, and then Pickin’ on the Plains out in Colby, KS and then Evergreen Brewery in Evergreen, CO. It’s gonna be a fun swing, looking forward to making lots of new friends and seeing old ones. This also marks the first occasion that Colebrook will get on a plane! Very exciting.

Until next time.

"On Time" on the charts, and festival season begins

Published Date : May 28, 2019

Very exciting news, music lovers. “On Time,” both the album and the song, are making waves in the bluegrass charts. The single has reached number 3 on the BluegrassToday airplay chart, and the album was number 8 on the Billboard Contemporary Bluegrass chart! Thanks to all the DJs spinning the single and thanks to all you good folks who are buying our album. We worked really hard on it, and we’re glad you’re willing to spend some of your money on it and support new music.

Festival season begins for Colebrook on Friday May 31, when we play the Strawberry Park Bluegrass Festival in Preston, CT. Then a show at St. Boniface Brewing as part of their annual beer festival the following weekend, and two weeks later at Smoked Country Jam, which is always a blast and we look forward to it every year. Hope to see some folks out at some festivals soon!

"On Time" dropped, and a break

Published Date : May 6, 2019

After a bunch of full weekends, Colebrook is on a tiny break until the end of May, and then full speed ahead into June and festival season.

We thoroughly enjoyed all the shows we’ve played in March and April and are looking forward to lots more. You might even hear a new tune or two.

Also, the new record is officially live! Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, Amazon MP3, all that stuff. You can use any one of those to listen. Or head over to the online store to buy a CD or vinyl copy of it. Hope we got it right for you!

So that was fun

Published Date : April 18, 2019

Hey folks. The weekend of April 12-14 was boatloads of fun. One show in Baltimore at the old 8×10 and two at Chestnut House Concerts, all three were amazing with great crowds and fun times. We recorded the Chestnut House shows, check out our social media for links to the recordings.

Next up after the holiday weekend is B Chord Brewing Company with the Gina Furtado Project (very excited to hear them!) and the Sandy Spring Museum on April 26 and 27. Check out the Tour page for more details.

Hope to see y’all at some shows!

“On Time” reflects a band growing, maturing

by Erika Firestone

Some say that Harrisburg-based band Colebrook Road helped pave the way for bluegrass in central Pennsylvania. But that’s not necessarily how the band sees it.

“Bluegrass chose us,” said founding member and mandolinist Wade Yankey.

Yankey described how he and Jesse Eisenbise, lead guitarist and vocalist, were introduced through a mutual friend over their love for the genre.

Now a well-rounded, five-piece ensemble including Joe McAnulty on fiddle, Mark Rast on banjo and Jeff Campbell on upright bass, Colebrook Road’s original sound exudes the confident cohesion that comes as a result of a decade of playing and touring together.

On May 3, the band will officially release its third full-length album, “On Time.” The recording demonstrates what Colebrook Road has become known for—timeless harmonies and a progressive, new take on the genre.

For the album, Eisenbise took the lead on songwriting.

“I usually have an idea pretty well fleshed out and bring it to the guys to arrange collaboratively,” he said.

McAnulty chimed in, describing how fun the process is when a new song is brought in and ideas start to float around. Along with their most complex arrangements yet, the songwriting for the new album has taken on a more personal turn regarding subjects such as love, family and loneliness.

“On Time,” the name of both the album and its first single, reflects a relatable theme that defines the dynamic of the band. Despite holding full-time jobs and raising families, band members make time for their music.

Yankey related how the song is about all of the stress that fades away when it comes time to play.

“After squeezing out of work early on a Friday and fighting traffic to places like D.C. or Baltimore, getting on stage is just a sigh of relief,” he said.

To support the album, members are excited to get out on the road, heading out as far as Washington state and to bluegrass festivals across the country, including Grey Fox, a seminal, four-day festival held each summer in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York.

But, wherever they go, band members take a little bit of home along wit them. A map of the state reveals several rural, winding Colebrook Roads that connect small towns. The name itself is a metaphor for their music, which has taken on even more meaning over the years as they connect intimate, back-country vibes to the more modern and distinct Pennsylvania sound that they have helped to forge.

2018 was a particularly big year for the group, as they signed with Virginia-based Mountain Fever Records, where they recorded “On Time” in one weekend. Eisenbise described how far they’ve com over a decade, a journey that started with recording their first, self-titled album in his basement.

“It’s a progression that complements how we’ve grown together as a band,” he said.

This article appears in the April 2019 issue of The Burg, available free in Harrisburg and the surrounding areas.

Last shows of 2018 and the year in review

Published Date : December 13, 2018

Hey there folks. Just two more shows to wrap up 2018, and what a year it has been! Colebrook Road signed with a record label, signed with a booking agent, recorded a new album, toured out to Colorado, played at some truly iconic festivals (we’re looking at you, Gettysburg and Grey Fox), and most importantly, met some awesome people along the way. We can’t thank you guys enough for being so awesome, hospitable, generous, and fun.

We have no doubt that 2019 will be more exciting than 2018. We have a new album being released (details on that soon) and hope to play a whole mess of awesome shows and festivals. See you all soon. Happy holidays and happy New Year!

I've Been Mostly Awake

Published Date : September 30, 2018

They say that IBMA stands for either International Bluegrass Music Association or I’ve Been Mostly Awake. We think both apply. Great times down in Raleigh, great to hang out with some many friends and make loads more, and most importantly, to play and listen to great music. 10/10 will return next year.

The shows slow down a little bit in October and November, mostly so we can woodshed the new tracks that are going on the upcoming album, and then a couple days where we actually record the tracks. Stay tuned.

Oh boy oh boy! One week to IBMA!

Published Date : September 18, 2018

One week to go until the busiest week in bluegrass. Looking forward to seeing lots of our friends and making a bunch more this year in Raleigh, which, according to the emails we’ve been getting, didn’t get beat up by Hurricane Florence too badly, and the conference will go on as scheduled. Be sure to say hi if you see us. Look for the five bluegrass nerds who also happen to be in a showcase band. Check our social media here and here for our showcase schedules.

Article in No Depression by Ted Lehmann features Colebrook Road

Published Date : September 13, 2018

Very flattering to have a writer as good as Ted Lehmann write a profile on your band! We have crossed paths with Ted a number of times now, and he is always no-nonsense, honest, and witty. We are pretty stoked to have an article like this written about the band.

See y’all in Hershey and NJ this weekend!

Two September dates and IBMA in Raleigh

Published Date : August 27, 2018

Hey there. Colebrook Road has a much-needed couple weekends off in September, before we play September 14 on the terrace at the Troegs Beer Garden in Hershey, and then at Camp Jam in the Pines in Hammonton, NJ (check another state off of the list for Colebrook Road!). This will be our first time playing Camp Jam, but we have heard excellent things, and the Troegs show was really fun last year. I have no reason to suspect it will be no fun this year!

Also, the last week of September, the bluegrass world descends upon Raleigh, NC, to hold the International Bluegrass Music Association World of Bluegrass conference, awards show, and bluegrass festival. As an official showcase band this year, Colebrook Road will be playing a bunch of shows around town that week. Find out exactly where on the Tour page, or by looking at this snazzy graphic.

Gettysburg and weekend debrief

Published Date : August 20, 2018

What a weekend. Gettysburg Friday, Laurel Hill Saturday, and a cool community event in Strasburg Sunday. Highlight of the weekend has to go to the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival. Awesome as a spectator, just as awesome as a performer. Special shout out to Southard Sound, who is on. top. of. their. stuff.

Also really fun was filming a video backstage with Mr. Adam Steffey to announce our signing with Mountain Fever Records. So great to know we’re on a label with musicians like him. We can’t wait to get down there and make a new record for you folks.

Next week we play up in Perry County for a fundraiser for Perry County Council of the Arts at the Winery at Hunter’s Valley and then the Riverside Camping Association’s annual Low Country Boil and Bluegrass down at Lancaster County central park. Gigs!

Colebrook Road signs with Mountain Fever Records!

Published Date : August 17, 2018

We are really excited and proud and thrilled (and all those other adjectives) to announce that we have signed a recording deal with Mountain Fever Records of Willis, Virginia! They are a great group of folks and we hope to make some great music with them. We should be in the studio this winter working on the third full-length Colebrook Road album. Definitely keep your eyes peeled to their website (https://mountainfever.com) and their social media accounts (@mountain_fever_records on Instagram, @MtnFeverRecords on Twitter), as well as our Instagram account and Facebook page (@colebrookroad, Facebook.com/colebrookroadband) for more details and insider peeks at the new album.

You should also listen to the other artists on their label. We have been spinning their albums during our recent travels in the new bluegrass van and really, really like what we hear.

Hope to see everyone at Gettysburg on Friday

Published Date : August 12, 2018

We hope you can all make it to the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival (but understand that not everyone can) this Friday August 17. We’re really looking forward to playing this festival and checking another bucket list festival off of our collective list. Bring a chair and your listening skills, it’s a great festival with a quiet crowd, until the song ends, of course.

In other news, the Laurel Hill Bluegrass Festival in Somerset, PA, and the Strasburg Bluegrass Festival in Strasburg, PA, are also this weekend. We have played at Laurel Hill five times now, and this will make our sixth. The Strasburg Festival is brand new, and we’ll be sharing the bill with another local band, Dillweed.

Published Date : July 23, 2018

We would also like to announce that we’ve been added to the lineup of the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival, August 16-19. Update from IBMA, September 26-29,

Published Date : October 5, 2017

On Tuesday night, Sept 25th, we loaded up the van and all headed down to Raleigh, North Carolina to participate in the amazing IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) World of Bluegrass Conference. We were surrounded by bluegrass royalty. What an experience.

Colebrook Road had the absolute honor of being asked to work with Stephen Mougin (Dark Shadow Recording, Sam Bush Band) – guitarist and vocalist extraordinaire – at IBMA this year. We acted as the model band for his session on Band Coaching Wednesday afternoon. It was an intense and highly educational experience with a great audience.

While at IBMA we got to hang out with Nechville Banjos (Tom, Ric, and Al), Apitius Mandolins, Roger Moss (from the Podunk Festival) and lots of other fine folks. Roger introduced us to a lot of wonderful people. We had a fantastic time showcasing at the Charm City Suite (thanks Phil and Adam!) with Jeff Scroggins and Colorado, Charm City Junction, Darrin and Brooke Aldridge (with the amazing Matt Menefee on banjo), Bill and the Belles, Danny Barnes, and our good friends the Dirty Grass Players. We also got to play a few in the California Bluegrass Association Suite and had our own impromptu gig in the lobby of the Marriott. It was really a blast to be so well received.

It was truly 36 hours of bluegrass heaven that didn’t last nearly long enough. Here’s to next year!!

Thanks Bluegrass Unlimited and Richard D. Smith for the great review!

We are really tickled about this review of our last album “Halfway Between” received from Bluegrass Unlimited and Richard D. Smith, author of Can’t You Hear Me Calling: The Life of Bill Monroe. Truly an honor.

Hey there everybody.  We had a great time (if a little warm) at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival up in Hebron, CT.  We really enjoyed listening to our fellow performers like Junior Sisk and Rambler’s Choice, Sierra Hull, and Mr. Del McCoury and his Band when we weren’t hiding out in the VIP building soaking up the A/C.  Kudos to Roger Moss and all the other personnel and volunteers for a great job running that festival!

Next up is two sets at the Laurel Hill Bluegrass Festival on Saturday and two sets at the Lucketts, VA Fair on Sunday.  Both should be an excellent time- check them out if you’re near Somerset, PA or the northern VA/WV panhandle/western MD area.

733 miles, three states, five nights

Published Date : July 19, 2016

Whew, that was fun!  Thanks to all that came out to our shows over the past five days.  We had a blast in between picking some tunes, climbing around Cooper’s Rock, hanging out with our friends, and eating copious burritos.  Hope to do it again soon.  Next up is a small festival in Hebron, CT…

Greetings on this dreary Saturday morning.  Yank, Jonesy, and Campbell are back at it at The Sugar Tank in Lancaster to record some rhythm tracks today.  We have 10 hours of studio time, a coffee maker, three instruments, sweet microphones, two engineers, it’s raining, and we’re not wearing sunglasses.  Hit it.

Welcome to the brand new Colebrook Road website!

Published Date : January 6, 2016

After much quiet work (cursing and yelling) and patient communication with various parties (angry e-mails and stomping around), the new Colebrook Road website is live.  We apologize for the break in communication, but we felt it was time to upgrade the old web presence.  This new website has features out the wazoo, and we hope that y’all like it.  Thanks to all who offered help in the process as well!

Our next date is January 16th and the Pour House, on Derry Street in Harrisburg, PA.  We start at 8 pm.  Hope to see you there!  Stay tuned for some new album updates as well.
